Griffon POP Reimu Hakurei is Extremely Adorable, Lolicon Pride Overflows

Sorry for the lack of posts recently as we’ve been quite busy with the just concluded Ozine Fest Anime Figure Special (which I’ll be doing a post on soon), but we’re now back to give you updates on some of the most eye-catching figures to come out from Japan. Griffon Enterprises has been known much for its steady releases of “Touhou Project” figures and while not all of them are considered to be top-tier quality, there are some like this POP Ver. of main character Reimu Hakurei that grabs notice. Griffon Does Flandre Scarlet a Third Time, Finally Gets Her Perfect

Griffon Enterprises is not shy about re-releasing new sculpts of “Touhou Project” characters they’ve already done in the past and true to this trend is their latest pre-order announcement of a third Flandre Scarlet scale figure, this time incorporating the best features of their previous Flandres into one delectable package. Hobby Japan January 2012 Scans (Max Factory Luka WOOT!!!)

The latest scans from Japan’s highly respected hobby magazine, Hobby Japan, have just come out and as usual, oodles of new figures to look forward to are once again in the spotlight. This issue seems to be much more interesting than the last two were, particularly due to the presence of very recognizable characters most otaku identify with.

GSC Millhiore F. Biscotti is Supremely Gorgeous, Behold the Future of Figure Sculpting

Some time ago, we featured Griffon’s Millhiore F. Biscotti here and to be blunt about it, it didn’t impress me. Sure the frills were above average but everything else spelled mediocre and while the “DOG DAYS” anime was just as mediocre (despite being a “spiritual successor” to the Nanoha series), the Princess of Biscotti clearly deserved better. Thankfully Good Smile Company is doing things right with their Millhiore and dare I say, this might be one of the blockbuster figures of 2012 already, judging from the preview images. Collecticon 2011 Event Report (No Need For Parental Guidance Here)

20111011-070040.jpg
Even though we’re looking forward to our next display at AME Monogatari next month, our presence at Collecticon 2011 was no slouch at all means whatsoever. In fact, given the limited space, we still managed to put up a great display with a good mix of old favorites and stunnin new releases. Continue reading

Griffon Millhiore Biscotti Impresses With Frills, Fails at Everything Else

20111004-040337.jpg
Known mostly as a “Touhou” figure maker nowadays, Griffon looks to steer away from their trend just a bit with their latest announcement of a 1/7 Millhiore F. Biscotti figure from mediocre moe fantasy anime, “Dog Days.” Continue reading

Hobby Japan November 2011 Scans

It’s nearing the end of the month which means that the new Hobby Japan issue is now ready to terrorize collectors into spending more of their blood, sweat and cash to get more of these plastic ladies. Whether you’re a Nendoroid fanatic, a figma fan boy or a scale figure savant, there’s a little bit of something for everyone here.

Onii-chan’s Diary: Otaku Expo 2011 Day 1

Otaku Expo 2011 Day 1 has ended and what a day it was! The figure display turned out great despite some early concerns over space and lighting. I’m proud of how our crew vigilantly guarded the display area while having fun at the same time. Revoltech Woody, as expected, stole the show with his perverted adventures, leading to a lot of interestingly maniacal shots. I wasn’t able to take a pic of Woody’s unfaithful figure polygamy, but most of our members should be uploading those soon. Besides, I don’t think my extremely limited camera gear (phone cam — not worthy) would do those shots justice. I did get some pics earlier as teasers for the better ones to come from our awesome members. More pics after the break. Continue reading

Griffon Shana Comes Back For More Candy Sweet Lovin’

Despite the overwhelming popularity of flame-haired tsundere, Shana, from the “Shakugan no Shana” franchise, there hasn’t been a lot of figures of her which can be labeled with adjectives such as excellent, great, exquisite, awesome or any other similar hyperbole to illustrate a must-have status. Max Factory released one in 2007 which can be called the definitive Shana to get but A) it’s a pain in the butt to scour for one and B) it’s beyond the reach of mere mortals who get by life by eating instant noodles. However, Griffon’s swimsuit-clad Shana, who seems to be in the mood for a day at the beach comes in at second. It’s not the ultra-sharp detailed wonder that the Max Factory one is, but it’s at least more than recognizable enough to be Shana and one could argue that the candy bright red hair of Griffon’s Shana trumps that of Max Factory’s. Even better, Griffon’s re-releasing this one too! You can get your very own beach loli this November for a half-decent price of 6500 yen.

Griffon’s Sakuya is Maid(Made) of Win

Sakuya Izayoi “Youyoumu Ver.” from “Touhou Project”

Pre-orders have just opened for this most wonderful of Sakuya Izayoi figures, depicting her with a flowing red scarf and ready for battle despite holding a mop (maybe she was disturbed from her cleaning duties?). Continue reading
